TMH’s Business Over My Business

In the hustle and bustle of daily life, it’s easy to prioritize personal endeavors, career pursuits, and ambitions. However, the Bible provides profound insights into the concept of aligning God’s business over our own business. It encourages a shift in perspective and priorities that honors God’s will and purposes above our own desires.

Seeking God’s Kingdom First

Matthew 6:33 sets the tone for prioritizing God’s business, stating, “But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” This verse underscores the importance of prioritizing God’s kingdom and righteousness above personal ambitions, trusting that God will provide for our needs when we prioritize His will.

Serving God in All Things

Colossians 3:23-24 highlights the essence of serving God in every aspect of life, stating, “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward.” This perspective shifts the focus from mere personal success to glorifying God through diligent and wholehearted service in all endeavors.

Trusting God’s Sovereignty

Proverbs 16:3 emphasizes the significance of committing our plans to the Lord, stating, “Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans.” Acknowledging God’s sovereignty over our business endeavors involves surrendering our plans and trusting His guidance and direction.

Stewardship and Faithfulness

The parable of the talents in Matthew 25:14-30 illustrates the importance of faithful stewardship. God entrusts us with resources, skills, and opportunities, expecting us to utilize them wisely for His purposes. Prioritizing God’s business involves using our talents and resources in ways that honor Him and benefit His kingdom.

Eternal Perspectives

2 Corinthians 4:18 highlights the importance of focusing on eternal values rather than temporary pursuits, stating, “So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.” Prioritizing God’s business requires a shift in perspective, valuing eternal significance over fleeting worldly achievements.

Integrity and Righteousness

Proverbs 11:1 emphasizes the importance of integrity in business dealings, stating, “The Lord detests dishonest scales, but accurate weights find favor with him.” Prioritizing God’s business involves conducting ourselves with honesty, integrity, and righteousness in all our affairs.

Balancing Work and Rest

Even in prioritizing God’s business, the Bible emphasizes the importance of rest. Psalm 127:2 reminds us, “In vain you rise early and stay up late, toiling for food to eat— for he grants sleep to those he loves.” Recognizing the need for rest reflects trust in God’s provision and acknowledges our limitations.

Aligning God’s business over our own involves a paradigm shift where our actions, decisions, and pursuits align with His will and kingdom purposes. It’s about stewarding our time, talents, and resources in ways that glorify Him and serve others. Prioritizing God’s business over our own ultimately leads to a life that reflects His values, purposes, and eternal significance.
